Chapter 6 (Brick): Steamy Love

I couldn’t believe that this was such a small world, that we would meet up like this. It was too goddamn good to be true.

But I could tell April didn’t want to be at a party. After all, the guys were a bit fucking loud, not that I could blame them.

Sure, there was room to celebrate, but honestly, I wanted to get to know April a bit more on a more personal sort of level.

We got back to my place, which was clean for the most part, and for a bit, we just sat on the bed, our bodies close to one another.

I could feel the tension between us, and as I turned to her, I spoke.

“So, what made you become a nurse? Not that it’s a bad thing, but just … surprising, that’s all,” I said.

She gave me a coy little grin.

“I just really like helping people. I’ve been working at Miami General for a bit now, but honestly, it was when I helped one of Shelly’s friends that I was inspired to truly help people,” she said.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Well, at Sunrise, one of Shelly’s friends, some guy named Richie, had taken way too many drugs. I was an EMT at the time since this was during my college years. I was there to have fun, but as soon as I saw Richie, I knew I had to save him. I remembered Shelly thanking me, and she said that she’d do anything for me. I told her that if she ever needed medical attention, she could talk to me. We both saved each other, and since then, I’ve always … felt that connection with her, one that was stronger than any bond I’d had with anyone else,” April said.

I could feel my heart swell at her story.

“I can tell you really do care about others. You really do love it.”

“I do. But what about you? You’re so nice, even though you’re kind of scary,” she said.

I laughed.

“It’s because I’ve always been that way. Back when I worked at the club, I met Stone and Bishop, who made the runs there. Then, after that incident where I almost killed a man, it was a sign that I needed to get out of there. Bishop saved my ass, and I was quickly patched into the MC. I’m loyal and kind, but I know I can be scary when angered,” I said.

“I’m sure it takes a lot for you to get like that,” she said.

“It does. If someone messes with my people or me … I definitely step in. It’s always been that way. My father, he died when I was twelve. After that shit happened, my family was never the same, and the love we had disappeared. I’d love to go back to those days to have that family bond. In a way, the MC gave me that. Now, I just need an old lady by my side, someone to complete it,” I said.

She reached out, holding my hand and looking me square in the eyes.
